The book is in good + condition with with wear and some discolouration to the top/base of the spine, bumping to the top corners, and a small stain to the rear cover. There is a single name written at the top of fep, which has a small stain to its fore-edge, which has ghosted onto the verso. The page fore-edges and bottom edges only are heavily foxed, with the pages clear and bright. There is the impression of two lines running across the first few pages, and the top corners of some pages are dog-eared.
The dust wrapper is in good + condition and is not price clipped, with repaired tears by the former owner, as well as wear and loss to the top/base of the spine, which has a white mark. There is light loss to the corners, while the reverse side of the wrapper is foxed, affecting the rear cover and inside flaps. The wrapper comers in a clear unattached protective cover.
The book won the 1938 Carnegie Medal.
